The essential oil of Callitris columellaris subsp. intratropica. is produced by distillation of the timber of Callitris columellaris subsp. intratropica. This species was formerly known as Callitris intratropica and the essential oil is commonly known as Blue Cypress oil. The blue colour is an artefact of production which produces the blue coloured molecules guaiazulene and chamazulene.
