Agrifutures has appointed independent market research company Kynetec Australia, to assist them in conducting an industry assessment study to gain a better understanding of emerging industries, their current size, growth until now and their future direction.

The outcomes from this will assist in placing a value on each industry. Gross Value of Production (GVP) estimates are often part of the application process for Agrifutures Emerging Industries funding and support.  The EOPAA Australian Native Oils project currently underway is funded from the Agrifutures Emerging Industries support, which seeks to demonstrate a $10 million increase in GDP as a result of this funding within 5 years of the project completion. To be able to accurately gauge the success of this project it is necessary to have a clear understanding of the current status of the industry and be able to evaluate how this change over time.

As such Agrifutures have invested in a project to undertake a combination of desktop research, meta-analysis of relevant publications and structured personal interviews with single respondents with representatives from Emerging Industries and key opinion leaders to improve the rigour in assessing GVP for new and Emerging Industries.

The three main objectives when running this pilot project are to:

o Calculate current GVP of selected Emerging industry sectors (with the potential to expand to more if the pilot is successful)

o Run the model on historical data to back cast historical GVP where possible

o Collect contact details for the benefit of enhancing AgriFutures communications with Emerging Industries to enable ongoing engagement of Emerging Industries investments

Questions asked will be aimed at gaining an understanding of quantities and values of commodities produced, which, in turn helps with the allocation of research and development funds.
