The EOPAA Native Oils project funded by Agrifutures is well underway with botanical specimens collected for all but one species and submitted for collation to the EOPAA Herbarium collection in the Southern Cross University Herbarium in Lismore, NSW.  Many thanks to those members who have donated botanical pressings, bulk plant plant specimens for laboratory distillation and quantities of commercially distilled oils.

Draft industry standards have now been created for all essential oils included in the project and scientific studies to establish anti-microbial efficacy and anti-inflammatory activity scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2021.  Literature reviews of efficacy and chemical composition are underway and will be used to support the industry standards created.

Essential oils included in the project:

Blue Cypress Oil – Callitris intratropica

Desert Rosewood Oil (Buddha oil) – Eremophila mitchellii

Rosalina (Lavender Tea Tree) – Melaleuca ericifolia

Nerolina (Broad Leafed Paperbark) – Melaleuca quinquenervia

Lemon Scented Tea Tree Oil – Leptospermum petersonniii

Manuka oil – Leptospermum scoparium

Mimosa absolute – Acacia dealbata

Lemon Ironbark Oil – Eucalyptus staigeriana

Lemon myrtle Oil – Backhousia citriodora

Kunzea (Tick Bush) Oil – Kunzea ambigua

We are eager to gain access to the broad range of chemotypes of these various oils which are in commercial production.  In particular we are interested to attain a broader range of specimens for Melaleuca quinquenervia oils of the Nerolina (ie. Linalool/Nerolidol type), Melaleuca ericifolia (Rosalina) and Eucalyptus staigeriana (Lemon Ironbark).  Please contact Ashley Dowell (austraveda@gmail.com)(0427107196) for any queries you may have about the project or contributions you may be able to make.
